NYX High Definition Primer Review

Welcome to my first ever blog post! Today, I will be writing about my newest purchase which is the NYX High Definition Primer.

I’ve always struggled with primers and more often than not I actually failed to apply them on my face before foundation. Why? Because I never really felt that the primers I purchased made my face look any better. Therefore, I was often left disappointed with the awful feeling that I’ve wasted my money yet again on something that didn’t serve its purpose.

I picked the NYX High Definition Primer due to its very affordable price – which was 12 pounds from Boots. Having spent over 25 pounds on primers previously, I decided to take a plunge on this one. The professional and crisp looking packaging made my decision really easy as I was instantly drawn to it.

As advertised by NYX this product is designed to ‘fill in pores, minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and mattify the complexion for a seamless finish. It also ensures the durability of your makeup, which will last for hours under even the harshest lighting’. So, let’s see whether this was true for me…

Firstly, the colour of the primer is white and it does tend to make your skin look a little bit paler. For this reason, I don’t think I’d wear it on its own, just because I’m very pale in general. The texture of this primer is quite thin, as it is a water based make up primer and therefore absorbs well into the skin. Personally, I felt that it prepared my skin perfectly for the next step, which was the application of my Estee Lauder double wear maximum cover foundation. Although this primer is designed to be paired with the NYX High Definition Studio Foundation, Ester Lauder is my absolute fave foundation due to its never disappointing high coverage (I can do a review on this if you want!).

Generally, I find this primer to be perfect for my oily skin and the product really wow’ed me! Considering the price, I was pleasantly surprised that the primer completely minimised my pores and made my face look extremely smooth. On top of this, my foundation looked flawless all day and it stayed in place! It created a bright appearance – something I’m always extremely fond of and something which I often felt lacking in primers I’ve used in the past.

My biggest worry was that this product would break me out, as my skin is extremely sensitive. However, I was positively surprised. This product is silicone free, therefore the risk of waking up with a face full of spots the next day is minimised.

All in all, I definitely recommend this primer. If you have a sensitive, oily skin that needs high coverage – THIS PRODUCT IS THE ONE!
